Strathaven Inter-Primary Schools Netball Competition Shield

Congratulations too, to our Tennis Team of Chloe Clyde, Lewis Devlin, Andrew Hall and Bonita Willcock, who took first place in the Strathaven Primary 4 Tennis Competition.  With their smashing ball skills, they have now qualified for the East Kilbride and Hamilton stage of the competition.  Good luck!

Rights Respecting Schools Committee Update

We are really excited to be having our RRS Silver Award assessment in a couple of weeks and have been busy getting organised.  We have been making good progress with our Action Plan.

Clyde-Avon-Nethan-logo-three-colour-e1507297675568Clyde, Avon & Nethan Foodbank (Article 27 UNCRC – the right to an adequate standard of living)

We are holding our second collection for the Clyde, Avon & Nethan Foodbank this week.  We had a really successful collection at Christmas time after Sharon McPherson from the Foodbank came to talk to us.  We have decided to hold collections for a week, every two months, and will give everyone notice of the items most needed.  If you would still like to donate this week, they are looking for tinned vegetables and long-life milk and fruit juice.

Playground Charter Update (Article 31 UNCRC – the right to relax and play)

We worked with the classes and staff to review and update our Playground Charter.  We held an assembly to let everyone know about the new Charter and we have designed and made a fantastic display in our open area.

Safer Internet Day (Articles 17 and 36 UNCRC the right to information and the right to be protected from exploitation)

Safer Internet Day was in February this year but because it was a really busy time in school we are planning to have our Safer Internet Day in the last week before the Spring break.  We are busy preparing our activities for this.

World Book Day – Thursday 1st March

We have lots of activities planned by P6/7 for World Book Day this year!  Some of these include:

  • Book Charades
  • Making Bookmarks
  • Book Quiz
  • Book Hunt
  • Guess the Character
  • Book themed fancy dress or bring a prop

We are also taking part in a charity book swap to support Children 1st.  You should bring a book you are happy to swap with someone else.  There is also the option to bring in a small donation to support Children 1st’s work.  Anyone who takes part will receive a bookmark from Children 1st.

Pupil Council Update by Abigail and Ruaridh

We’ve been very busy lately working on all our ideas to the school better.

Indoor Playtime Big Buddies – When there is a wet playtime two children from P6/7 will help Mrs Sorbie monitor the younger children and encourage them to play.

Masterclass Rota – We are organising activities and groups for Masterclasses.  At the end of every month their will be a Masterclass led by teachers and the pupils will take part in these in groups.  Last year we had Masterclasses in knitting, dancing and different arts and crafts like making bird feeders.
