Overton Farm Blossom Day Competition 2018

Earlier this months the ECO Committee were excited to organise our entries into the Clyde Valley Blossom Day Competition organised by Overton Farm.  The theme of the competition was “Flowers From Recycled Materials” and the judges were impressed by the standard of creative entries from all of the participating schools.

Winner of the competition was Daisy Taylor of Primary 7.  Daisy’s prize is a class visit to Overton Farm.  Primary 6/7 are really looking forward to their visit on Friday this week.

Well done to Daisy and everyone else for their fantastic entries!

Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award Success

We are delighted to have achieved the next stage of the Rights Respecting Schools Award, Silver: Rights Aware.

The Unicef assessor who visited us was impressed by our progress in embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in our policy, practice and culture, and by the pupils’ knowledge of the Convention and the work we have done to promote children’s rights, both locally and globally.

Clean Up Scotland Sticker Competition

Keep Scotland Beautiful recently challenged schools across Scotland to design a sticker which said thank you to the thousands of Clean Up Scotland volunteers helping to remove rubbish from the countryside, seaside and roadsides.

All of our pupils submitted an entry and the competition received over 1,200 entries which were then judged by Keep Scotland Beautiful with the help of Helping Hand Environmental.  We were delighted to hear that the top prize was awarded to Zoe Barbour in P7, with her entry shown above.

Zoe has received her prize, a school Clean Up kit by Helping Hand Environmental and Keep Scotland Beautiful.

“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter the Clean Up Scotland sticker competition. All entries were fantastic, which made the judging particularly difficult, and we look forward to seeing Zoe’s design featuring on Clean Up Scotland stickers that go to all registered clean up participants this year.”

Sporting Success

Strathaven Inter-Primary Schools Netball Competition

Well done to our Netball Team on winning the Strathaven Inter-Primary Schools Netball Competition!  The triumphant team of Zoe Barbour, Amy Hall, Rory Hutchison, Vanessa Lindsay, Flora Lironi-MacIntyre, Lucy Smith, Daisy Taylor, Kate Taylor and Talia White collected the coveted competition shield for Sandford Primary for the first time in the competition history.

Strathaven Inter-Primary Schools Netball Competition Shield

Congratulations too, to our Tennis Team of Chloe Clyde, Lewis Devlin, Andrew Hall and Bonita Willcock, who took first place in the Strathaven Primary 4 Tennis Competition.  With their smashing ball skills, they have now qualified for the East Kilbride and Hamilton stage of the competition.  Good luck!
